Academics conducting researches have been advised to collaborate with other institutions towards making proposals that are capable of winning national and international research grants.

The Director Research, Innovation and Development of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University ATBU Bauchi Professor Fatima Sawa gave the advice at the opening of a three day Step-down workshop on Grant winning proposal writing organised for lecturers who submitted research concept notes for review.

Professor Fatima Sawa said out of the fifty concept notes submitted from the university, none scaled the TETFUND NRF criteria for selection hence the need to scale up knowledge and win research grants through collaboration with other study institutions.

She said due to lapses by applicants on criteria for proposal especially as regards to concept notes, the management deemed it necessary to organize the workshop for lecturers to bridge the knowledge gap in research writing proposals.

In a remark, the Vice Chancellor Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi Professor Muhammadu Ahmad Abdulazeez who expressed concern over the abysmal performance of the university in last year’s NRF grant award, called on the lecturers to brace up and access the over eight point five billion naira research grant approved for 2021 cycle.

Professor Muhammadu Abdulazeez who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba, commended the university’s directorate of research, innovation and development for the Initiative.

He challenged the directorate to work towards preparing eligible candidates that would apply for international research grants such as the Horizon Europe research grant among others.

The step down training was organized for one hundred and seventy people whose research concept notes were reviewed and approved by the university’s Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development.
