The abducted school children of Jangebe Government Girls Secondary school in Zamfara State have been released.
Addressing newsmen at Government House Gusau, Governor Bello Matawalle said the girls were undergoing medical examination before being reunited with their families.
Matawalle said no ransom was paid for their release.
The Governor said that the abducted girls were 279 as against the 317 reported by some media.
The girls were abducted from their school dormitory last Friday, by suspected bandits, few days after another set of students were also abducted in Niger state.
In December, more than 300 boys were kidnapped from a school in Kankara, Katsina state.
