Borno Govt Condemns Brutal Murder of Truck Driver as Army Investigates killing

Secretary to Borno state government, Dr Bukar Tijani at a media briefing in Maiduguri on the killing of a truck driver by suspected soldier along Maiduguri-Gamborun Ngala road.

The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has strongly condemned the killing of a truck driver Mohammed Bello by a suspected soldier along Maiduguri-Gamborun Ngala road.

Governor Zulum who spoke through the Secretary to the state Government, Dr. Bukar Tijani at media briefing in Maiduguri described the killing as heinous and brutal.

He expressed commitment of the state government to ensure that the matter is properly investigated and the culprit face the full wrath of the law. 

The Governor expressed concern that innocent citizens are still being extorted by some bad elements in the military after several efforts by the state government to halt the detestable act.

“The Borno state government with the support of the military opened the Maiduguri-Mafa-Dikwa-Gamnorun Ngala road so that citizens can have their normal business of travelling, trading and other things and therefore, anything that will prevent the free movement of our people who are lawfully doing their everyday business must be avoided ” Zulum said.

Governor Zulum assured members of National Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW and the public that drastic measures would be taken to prevent reassurance. 

He commiserated with the family of the deceased and urged members of the public to maintain peace while the matters is handled according to the law.

Borno state Secretary of NURTW Alhaji Ahmodu Musa said the incident happened on Tuesday twenty seventh December at a military check point in Dikwa town and commended the state government for the swift response. 

Meanwhile, the Seven Division Nigerian Army confirmed the incident, noting that the soldier in question has been arrested. 

“In the Division’s effort towards ensuring that the family of the victim get justice, the soldier in question has been arrested and an investigation has commenced ” 

The Nigerian Army through the Acting Deputy Director Seven Division, Lieutenant Colonel Ajemusu Jingina said the Division does not tolerate any form of unprofessional misconduct from any personnel.
