Building Teachers and Lecturers Capacity, Pivotal to Educational Standard, Federal Government

The Federal Government says, it would prioritised on building the capacity of Teachers and Lecturers in schools and higher institutions in the country so as to produce graduates that have skills.

The State Minister for Education, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, stated this in a Goodwill message at the Pre- Convocation lecture of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi.

The Minister stated that, the federal government was making effort on students to acquire skills, knowledge and character in tertiary institutions through equipping workshops in order to produce graduates that have the skills.

According to him, only if the graduates in the universities, Polytechnics and other tertiary institutions have knowledge, skills and character could be beneficial to themselves and to the society in general.

The Pre-Convocation Lecture was presented by the Vice Chancellor of Al-Qalam University Katsina, Professor Nasiru Musa Yauri, on “the Contemporary Challenges of the Nigeria Economy. The Role of Human Capital Development”, where he identified unemployment, poverty, insecurity and Infrastructure deficit as the major challenges affecting the Nigeria economy.

He also explained that, Nigeria and Kebbi State in particular have abandunt mineral resources and if they could be used judiciously, the issue of unemployment, insecurity, hunger and challenges could be addressed.

Equally, the Minister and Kebbi State Governor, commissioned one point two kilometer access road, second main gate constructed at the cost of two hundred and ninety six million naira as well Estate Management Department, Urban and Regional planning, staff quarters water works and female students hostel that were rehabilitated out of the four hundred and ninety million naira revitalization funds provided by the federal ministry of education.
