SUG Exco taking Oath of Office

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University ATBU Bauchi has advised Students of the institution to take advantage of the newly introduced Federal Government Students’ Loan Scheme to sustain their academic pursuit.

The Acting Vice Chancellor ATBU Professor Sani Usman Kunya gave the advice during the inauguration of the University Student Union Government Executive and representative Assembly at Yelwa Campus.

Professor Sani Kunya represented by the Dean Student Affairs Engineer Professor Sa’id Yusuf Umar said the newly introduced Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND would compliment the already established students’ support scheme of the institution, thereby reducing the burden of educational expenses on both parents and students.

“I want to enjoin ouf students to take advantage of the students loan scheme under NELFUND recently introduced by the federal government, I learnt that 1500 students of University of Job have been granted the loan, and this is in addition ti our own students support scheme meant for indigent students who cannot afford to pay school fees or even take care of themselves while in the school”, Kunya advises.

He also promised to redeem the pledge of five thousand naira ticket each to one hundred students at the 41st Balewite celebration by the outgone SUG exco and refund of two thousand naira each to students that received substandard jackets.

“I know the immediate Exco promised go give one hundred tickets of five thousand naira each during the 41st Balewite celebration, we shall fulfill that promise very soon and as wll refund two thousand naira to those that got substandard jackets”, the VC reiterates.

On the electronic conduct of students election, the Acting Vice Chancellor who commended the Directorate of ICT for its effort, promised to improve on areas of weakness for acceptable future exercise by the entire students population.

Earlier, the Outgone SUG President ATBU Bauchi, Comrade Wakili Dauda highlighted some of the achievements recorded in the last one year to include five hundred thousand naira CBN support, improved access to portable water, securing of students Scholarship and provision of free intercampus bus services to students among others.

” SUG during my tenure received five hundred thousand naira support from CBN where ten students were selected and given ten thousand naira each, secure scholarship from Indorama fertiliser company, partnered the State Water Board to provide portable water at the campus, another five hundred thousand naira support was received from United Healthcare also planted tree seedlings at SUG garden among others”, He highlights.

In his acceptance speech, the New SUG President ATBU, Citizen Fahad Abdullahi who thanked the University management and students for their effort towards a peaceful and transparent election, promised to lead with humility and selflessness.

The event featured administering of Oath by the University Legal Officer Barrister Zakariya Jibrin as well as presentation of Certificates of return and recognition to some personalities.
