Yobe Gov’t In collaboration with Save the Children Engages Stakeholders, On How to Protect Schools from Attacks

Yobe State Government, in partnership with Save the Children International, has expressed commitment towards ensuring the safety of Schools in the state.

The Commissioner of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Abba Idriss Adam, stated this at the commemoration of the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, held in Damaturu, the State Capital.

The Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, who was represented at the occasion funded by the European Union Humanitarian Aid, by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Bukar Aji Bukar, said, the safety and well-being of students in schools are the most important concerns for parents, educators, and policymakers worldwide, adding that Creating a safe and secure learning environment is essential for the holistic development of children.

While speaking, the programmes manager of Save the Children International, Mr Iliya Joseph, said the aim of organising the event is to bring all stakeholders together, including Government, Military, Paramilitary, Community stakeholders and development partners, to commit to protecting schools from attacks.

Mr Joseph further states that working together with the stakeholders would help in finding a Permanent solution to addressing the challenges being faced by the schools.

He added that providing a safe learning environment is the only thing that can give parents confidence in sending their children to schools without fear.

In a remark, CSC Haruna Mohammed Dawaki of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Yobe State command, explained that intelligence gathering is the most important aspect of the scenario.

He, therefore, urges parents and Community stakeholders to always provide security agencies with timely, meaningful information that will help them achieve the mandate.
