FHI/360 Alive & Thrive Trains Kano Journalist on Promoting Advocacy on the uptake of MMS for Maternal Health

A non Governmental organization named FHI/360 Alive & Thrive has conducted a two-day media Engagement training in Kano with a view to Promoting Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) for Maternal Health.

Speaking during the Training the Dr Auwal Kawu, Senior Technical Adviser on behaviour change communication FHI/360 Alive Thrive said the aim of the workshop was to ensure effective promotion of Materna health through the use of multiple micro nutrients to addresses the menace of Anemia and other Maternal challenges .

“Recently the federal government in collaboration with the states are focusing on improving Materna health among pregnant women,this a very critical period because the concern is on Maternal Mortality, Government Is committed to providing Multiple micro nutrients to all pregnant women in the country with a view to addressing the challenges pregnant women are facing “

” We have observed in addition anemia pregnant Women suffers several deficiencies in nutrition,so multiple micro nutrients consist of fifteen nutrients that are extremely essential for pregnant women to ensure safe delivery and healthy baby”

Dr Auwalu Kawu said the meeting with the media was targeted at promoting the campaign for the use and access to multiple micro nutrients.

“FHI/360 Alive & Thrive is implementing the Accelerating the Scale of Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) project in seven states (Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Borno, Bauchi, Yobe and Lagos”

He noted that micro nutrients supplements prevent pregnant women from pregnancy complications,hence they not hesitate to embrace the use of micro nutrients supplements through out the pregnancy period with a view to curtailing Amenia.

The Technical Adviser appealed to the media to redouble their efforts in enlightening and sensitization of the general populace with a view to achieve the set objectives.

Fatima Isa from freedom Radio and Rabiu Aboki Anas from Abubakar Rimi Television were among the participants of the training ,they said the experience they acquire would help immensely in enhancing their sensitization on the use of multiple micro nutrients among pregnant women to curtailing Materna Health.
