Gombe Sport Commission Commends Atletics Association For Organizing Championship

The Director, of Gombe State Sports Commission, Mrs. Zainab Adamu has commended the Chairman of the State’s Athletics Association, Dr. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara, for his exceptional effort in sponsoring the ongoing Inter Primary School Athletics Competition.
Mrs Zainab expressed her astonishment at the large gathering of school children for the championship taking place at Pantami township stadium in Gombe.
The Director said such an event had never been witnessed before in Gombe State.
She further expressed her happiness that Dr Gara was able to accomplish this feat without any financial support from the government, assuring that the state government would provide whatever contribution it could to support and enhance the championship shortly.
Recognizing the significance of private sector participation in sports funding, Mrs Zainab stressed that the government alone cannot fully finance sports activities.
The Director appealed to stakeholders in sports, companies, banks, and philanthropists to emulate Dr Gara’s lead and contribute to the growth of sports in Gombe.
Mrs Zainab expressed her belief that with the calibre of Dr Ahmed Gara in the sports scene, the State would regain its prominence, particularly in athletics.
She, however, lamented that among the various Sports Association Chairmen appointed in the state, only Dr Gara had raised the bar by organizing a historical Athletics Championships, describing him as a role model for others.
