The Railway Property Management Company Limited, a subsidiary of Nigerian Railway Cooperation has advised those occupying its properties not to erect structures on railway tracks, as Nigerian interests are first before that of the individual.

The Managing Director of Railway Management company limited Mr Timothy Zalanga gave the advice while on proper audit of railway land across the country in his visit to Gombe.

Mr Timothy Zalanga said the agency has embarked on the excise to ensure those that occupied railway land are accounted for and the purpose they occupied for.

The Managing Director added that the audit will also allow the company to ascertain the number of people allocated the railway land, through proper channels and pay dues for using the land.

He further explained that the railway property management company has the record of its land since 1960 and it is validating the record as the railway will soon be back to full operations across the country.

Mr Zalanga also called on the state governments to collaborate with the Nigerian railway cooperation in rehabilitating railway stations to ensure that the cities are not dilapidated.

Responding, a representative of railway land occupants Alhaji Danladi Adamu Mai Katako thanked the railway property management company for their mutual understanding and for giving them a chance to run their businesses.

Alhaji Danladi Adamu said the members of the timber market are always ready to abide by the rules of Nigerian railway cooperation.
