Yobe State Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni says the partnership between the United Nations Development Programmes, UNDP, the Government of Japan, and the Yobe State Government, has impacted positively the recovery, reconstruction, and rehabilitation process of the communities, especially those affected by the insurgency.

Governor Buni stated this when he received the team of the UNDP North East Sub-Region, on a courtesy visit to the government house, Damaturu.

He also commends UNDP on its efforts in the reconstruction of schools, construction and equipping of Health facilities, and Vocational training for the youths among others.

The Governor further appealed for the partnership to look into the effects of Climate change and the challenges of desert encroachment and floods.

“Let me share with you one other major area of concern to the government of Yobe state, that is, the effect of Climate change on the state. We are faced with the twin challenges of desert encroachment and floods. The state is losing sizeable of its part to desert encroachment, and also recording huge loss to yearly floods”.

Leader of the UNDP North-East sub-office Mr. Moncef Kartas said the team was in the government house to express their appreciation for the support of the Yobe government and the cooperation of the people of the state to the UN agency.

He, therefore, assured the agency’s continuous support to ensure the sustainability of the programs in the state.
