The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics ( ASUP) has urged the federal government to release the N15billion approved last year in 2021 as the first tranche to address the infrastructural deficit in Nigerian Polytechnics and colleges of Technical education.

The National President of ASUP, Comrade Anderson Ezeibe, made the call during the 102nd National Executive Committee Meeting (NEC) held in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

Comrade Anderson said the request for the release of funds was part of the pledge during the signing of the Memorandum of Action in June 2021 which prompted the Union to suspend the strike.

who spoke extensively on the adverse effect of the non-release of funds for the implementation of NEEDS assessment added that the country’s inflation is biting harder, particularly on the infrastructural deficit of the Polytechnics.

He expressed worried over the manipulation of the 2019 polytechnic act by some Governing councils of Polytechnics where the process of appointments of Rectors and other management staff is violated.

He also decried low enrollment of students in Federal Polytechnic Mubi, a situation he attributed to poor road conditions, while the remuneration of some staff of Adamawa State polytechnic Yola did not tally with that of federal polytechnic Mubi.

While emphasizing that the disposition of proprietors of public polytechnic and colleges of Technical education is dismal to their mandate, the ASUP President noted that the union will no longer guarantee industrial harmony if the memorandum of Action is not implemented later.

He further said the state of the nation will be appraised at the ongoing NEC meeting to proffer solutions to the dwindling problems facing the nation.

The Zonal Coordinator, ASUP,Lumpe Innocent Simji who commended the various chapters across the nation for making it to Adamawa pledged for a fruitful deliberation.
There were goodwill messages by Representatives of the Chairman, Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic Mubi, and the Rector of the institution.
