The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools ASUSS Bauchi State Chapter has called on Bauchi State government to address the issues of promotion and omission of teachers in its payroll for optimum service delivery.
The Union also called for domestication of the new retirement age and length of service in the teaching profession.
The Chairman of the Union Comrade Bala Sambo made the call when he led other executives of the body on a courtesy visit to the State Commissioner of Education Hajiya Jamila Dahiru in her office.
Comrade Bala Sambo said it members are faced with numerous challenges especially in the area of welfare and stagnation on GL 15 while other civil servants are promoted to GL 17.
He promised to support the commissioner towards implementing policies and programmes that will have direct bearing on the welfare of its members and the students in extension.
Responding, the Commissioner of Education Hajiya Jamila Dahiru thanked them for the visit and promise to put their request into consideration.
Bauchi Gov’t begins preparation for Annual School Census.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Education Dr Jamila Muhammad Dahiru has charged Education Managers to mobilise enumerators towards the successful conduct of this year’s School Census across the state.
Dr Jamila Dahiru gave the indication at the 2021/2022 annual school census planning meeting held at the state Ministry of Education headquarters in Bauchi.
The Commissioner said her mission is to provide conducive atmosphere for effective teaching and learning in all public schools, hence the need for proper planning of the exercise.
She said the rational behind the annual school census planning meeting is to address the challenges of out of school children and to provide permanent solution in that direction.
According to Dr Jamila, just like previous years, enumerators from various sections of the state ministry of education, state universal basic education board and other education authorities would be mobilised and trained to ensure success of the exercise.
The Commissioner used the medium to restate her commitment towards digitalising the education sector for effective service delivery.
The Schools Census which was last held in September 2020 is an annual exercise conducted with the aim of bridging the deficit in teacher/student ratio and provision of additional materials where necessary.
