A Bauchi-based online newspaper, WikkiTimes in collaboration with Google Certified, have trained working Journalists in the state on the use of Information and Communication Technology, ICT, towards enhancing journalism practice.
The trainees drawn from various media platforms to include Online, Broadcast and Print were urged to utilize what they have learned to enable them maximize productivity and compete with their counterparts across the globe.
The training which cover the areas of Investigative Journalism, Marine and Flight Journalism, aims to expose them to some tool and techniques that can be utilized to probe some information with a view to ascertaining its veracity.
The Convener of the training and publisher of WikkiTimes, Mr. Haruna Mohammed Salisu, who said the event was initially for staff of the newspaper, felt indebted to extend hands of friendship to sister media organizations.
Mr. Haruna Salisu expressed satisfaction with the turnout of the participants and called on them to make use of the techniques provided for enhanced journalism.
He also appreciated the representative of Google Certified, Ali Isah for sparing his time throughout the period to see to the success of the training.
In a remark the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Bauchi State Council, Comrade Umar Sa’idu, who commended the organizers for the initiative admitted that such training was the first of its kind being hosted by a media organization in the state.
Comrade Sa’idu who solicited for more partnership from the organizers, assured of an enabling environment towards hosting trainings of this nature in the state.
A participant, Adamu Imam told Radio Nigeria that the training has widen his idea on modern journalism and pledged to step down the knowledge garnered to his colleagues as part of his contribution to the profession.
Certificates would be provided to each of the participants by the organizers of the training for future reference.
