In an effort to create an enabling environment for clean and sanitised politics, the Bauchi State Election Debate Group has assured of neutrality, fairness and Justice in this year’s Governorship Debate in the state.

The State Chairman Publicity Committee 2023 Governorship Election Debate Group Comrade Abdullahi Yelwa gave the assurance while speaking with Radio Nigeria Correspondent shortly after a meeting with the General Manager of the station Malam Aminu Gombi in Bauchi.

Comrade Abdullahi Yelwa who is also a member of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice said four leading candidates have been selected for this year’s debate in an effort to introduce hygiene to the processes of campaigns for better choice making to the electorates.

“Bauchi State Gubernatorial Debate Group 2023 and it is on that premise that the NUJ is coordinating this to bring the leading candidates for PRP, PDP, APC ans NNPP at the Development Exchange Center where the debate will be transmitted live by all the media houses in Bauchi particularly Globe FM and it will also be streamed as promised by the management,” Yelwa explains.

He said unlike the previous debates in 2015 and 2019 were the exercise was either overstretched with too many candidates or organised as a simple candidates manifesto presentation separately, this year’s event has been carefully designed to suit global best practice.

According to the Chairman Publicity Committee, the exercise would be guided by rules which each and every candidate including their supporters must adhere to in order to ensure sanity and orderliness.

“Four questions would be given to all of them, though in all we have sixteen questions and all of them would want to ensure that they comply with all the regulations; non of rhe candidates is allowed to come in to the venue with more than ten supporters and also there would be no use of vulgate language, no clapping, no shouting, we would want to ensure that all the questions come from our moderator and at any point we felt a candidate is derailing h we will call his attention,” he enumerates.

The Bauchi State 2023 Governorship Election Debate coming up on the 25 of January under the coordination of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ has partners to include the Nigerian Bar Association NBA, Society for Peace Studies and Practice SPSP, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations NIPR, Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria MHWUN, and the Nigerian Medical Association NMA.

The exercise which will be aired live across all media platforms in the state is expected to last for two hours from 11 to 1 pm at the Development Exchange Center DEC.

Meanwhile, the General Manager Radio Nigeria Globe FM Bauchi Malam Aminu Gombi had earlier promised full coverage of the debate including live streaming for all interested listeners across the globe.
