Bauchi Govt, USAID Trains Over 50 Civil Servants on Procurement

Bauchi State Bureau for Public Procurement is conducting a weeklong training for Civil Servants across Ministries, Departments and Agencies for Conversion and Certification to enable them change their cadre from the core Service to Procurement.

The training which drew fifty-three participants from different MDAs is being funded by the USAID State Accountability, Transparency and Effectiveness, State2State Activity.

Declaring the training open, the State Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Yahuza Adamu Haruna said procurement was a serious business in public service as it helps in blocking leakages and developing local competences that can compete with their counterparts across the globe.

Alhaji Yahuza Haruna who urged the trainees to justify their selection and pledged the state government’s commitment to ensure fulfillment of any obligation signed with development partners to achieve the desired objective.

The Director General of the State Bureau for Public Procurement, Engineer Joshua Titus Sanga said the essence of the training was to equip the participants with the procurement process for effective management of public finance in three areas of Supply Works and Award of Contracts.

In a remark, the Bauchi State Team Lead of State2State Activity, Mrs. Rabi Ekele said procurement as a key component in public service hence the resolve to select and train the civil servants for easy conversion and certification to the procurement cadre.

Mrs. Ekele also assured the state government of sustained partnership aimed at enhancing accountability, transparency and effectiveness in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the state.

Also speaking, the Director Registration, Database and ICT, Bureau for Public Procurement, Abuja, Mr Aliyu Aliyu expressed optimism that at the end of the training the participants would have the best of what would be delivered.
