The Bauchi State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has expressed concern over the recent action by  security personnel and drivers who conveyed it’s contingents to Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital for the just concluded National Youth Game.

The duo were said to have left the athletes and officials stranded for some hours after the closure of the national tournament over what they claimed as nonpayment of allowances by the state government.

Addressing the Journalists in Bauchi over the issue, the State Commissioner of youth and Sports Development Adamu Manu Soro described the development as surprising and uncalled for.

According to the Commissioner, the state government through the ministry has mobilized the available resources to ensure the athletes have not only participate actively in the game, but return to their respective families in good time.

“Despite the current economic challenges, Bauchi state tried its possible best to ensure that the over 89 athletes were mobilized to represent the state at the national event”
Adamu Manu Soro noted that the ministry has attached it’s representatives with the contingents for proper monitoring and guidance and non of them reported the purpoted case for action to be taking accordingly.

“The essence of sending our representatives was to ensure proper communication on issues relating to the welfare of athletes including the protesting security personnel and drivers and non of them tell use anything about the issue, only for us to read unverified stories on pages of newspapers”
While lamenting the unprofessional action by the security personnel, the Commissioner Maintained that they subjected the lives of people under their custody to danger and untold hardship as they are expected to ensure adequate protection of lives and properties and not leading protests.

He noted that a committee would be constituted to look into the remote cause of the problem with a view to take necessary action that will prevent future occurrence.

As at the time of filling this report, the case has been resolved as the  athletes have began the journey back to Bauchi.
