Bauchi: Stakeholders charged to protect pupils against all forms of violence.

Education Stakeholders in Bauchi State have been charged to support government’s drive of safeguarding and protecting pupils in formal and non formal learning centres against all forms of violence.

The Executive Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB Dr Surunbai Sheikh Dahiru gave the charge at the opening of a two day step down training for Safeguard Master Trainers on Safeguarding children in schools and non-formal learning centres held in Bauchi.

The training seeks to expose the participants on the General Principles of Gender Based Violence, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Sexual Harassment.

Dr Surunbai Sheikh Dahiru who was represented by the board’s Permanent Commissioner one Alhaji Idris Hardawa attributed the problems of out of school children and dropouts to insecurity as it relates to poor governance, and called on all stakeholders to ensure collective upbringing of children in the society.

Earlier, the Northeast Deputy Zonal Director UBEC Abdulsalam Abubakar said the training is not restricted to the protection of pupils from harm only, but also extended to parents ensuring that their kids have knowledge on safety measures, and health care tips among others.

In their separate remarks, BESDA State Focal Person Malam Nura Ahmad and UBEC Official Malama Asma’u Abba note that the training seek to refresh the minds of the participants on the responsibility of safeguarding the health of learners and to also guard against Gender Based Violence.

Radio Nigeria Education correspondent in Bauchi Abubakar Baba Ahmad reports that the training was organized for one hundred participants across the 20 local government areas of the state under the Better Education Service Delivery for All BESDA Environmental and Social Safeguard Component.
