Bauchi State Government Launches Administration of 1.5 Doses of Cholera Vaccine.

Bauchi State Government has launched Oral Cholera Vaccination Campaign with a call on households to avail themselves with the opportunity towards preventing the scourge of the disease.

At the inauguration ceremony in Government House Bauchi, Governor Bala Mohammed said  government is concern with the devastating effect of disease and efforts are being made to contain it.

Bala Mohammed said following the report of the cholera outbreak in nineteen out of the twenty local government areas of the state, the state government in collaboration with World Health Organization WHO and other partners procured about one point five million doses of the Vaccine.

According to him, taking the vaccine publically by himself, traditional and religious leaders was an attestation that it is safe and has no negative effect.

While directing the State ministry of health to treat all recorded cases free of charge, Governor Bala Mohammed also charged the State Environmental Sanitation Agency BASEPA and the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency to come up with robust framework that will prevent future occurrence of the outbreak.

In separate remarks the executive Chairman Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency Dr. Rilwanu Muhammad and the Zonal Director National Primary Healthcare Development Agency Mr. Mai Yakubu said the Vaccines would be administered in two doses to boost immunity and provide maximum protection against the disease for three years
They stressed the need for Social mobilization, sensitization and risk communication against the disease.

The representatives of religious and traditional leaders also added their voice on the importance of the Vaccines.

High points of the event were administration of the Cholera Vaccine to the State Governor Bala Mohammed, his Deputy Senator Baba Tela, Emirs of Bauchi and Ningi, Clergy men among others.
