Bauchi State House of Assembly has expressed it’s determination to ensure passage of a bill that will encourage and facilitate whistle blowing and protect whistle blowers from reprisals in the state.

The state Speaker Abubakar Suleiman disclosed this at a one day stakeholders public hearing on a proposed whistle blower bill sponsored by him in collaboration with some Foundation under Justice sector reform.

Declaring the public hearing open, the speaker said the move become necessary considering the ugly event on corruption happening in the state and the country at large.

He explained that Federal Government has encourage States to established the law with the aim of fighting corruption Nationwide urging the need for stakeholders and  members to support it’s passage into law.

Abubakar Sulaiman informed the gathering that the general public have the opportunity to make contributions on the merits, justifications and any other matters to be included in the proposed Bill.

The stakeholders who made submissions and presentations during the public hearing has supported the passage of the Bill as it will strengthen the fight against corruption and reinforce government’s policy on whistle blowing.

According to them, the Bill, if enacted will guarantee adequate protection of whistle blowers and serve as a comprehensive legislation for addressing issues attributed to whistle blowing in line with global best practices.
