Borno state government takes delivery of 66,336 doses of Moderna Covid-19 vaccine.

Borno state government says it has embarked on aggressive sensitisation campaign to ramp up Covid-19 vaccination across the state.

Executive Director State Primary Healthcare Development Agency Dr Goni Abba stated this while briefing newsmen on preparation to commence another round of Covid-19 vaccine.

He announced that the state government has taken delivery of 66,336 doses of Moderna Covid-19 vaccine.

The Executive Director explained that the vaccination will be conducted at 88 different health facilities across 25 accessible local government areas, while the remaining two local governments will be carried out in IDP camps.

“This moderna Covid-19 vaccine is for everyone from 18 years and above which is slightly different from the AstraZeneca vaccine that was used to vaccinate frontline health workers and other vulnerable people Dr Abba remarked “

Dr Goni Abba said already, training of health workers have been completed at the state and local government levels.

He also said social mobilisation team have been deployed to different parts of the state to engage with traditional, religious and opinion leaders towards sensitising people to accept the vaccine. 

The Executive Director cautioned those who took the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine not to take the Moderna vaccine as the state will soon recieve additional doses of AstraZeneca vaccine. 

Similarly, the State Cold Chain Officer, Tijjani Alhaji Nasir said Solar Direct Drive equipment will be used in the storage of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine. 

Conducting newsmen round the facility at the state epidemiological unit, Alhaji Tijjani expressed confidence that the vaccines will be exhausted before its expiry date,that is December 2021.
