BSPHCDA Confirms New Cases of Yellow Fever.

Eight cases of Yellow Fever have been confirmed in Ganjuwa local government area of Bauchi State.

The Executive Chairman of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed stated this at a Press Briefing held in his office.

Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed said the confirmation followed an investigation by the agency in response to the reported cases of deaths at a community in Ganjuwa local government area of the state.

“After taking samples of eight people, all of them were found to be positive cases of yellow fever disease” he said.

He explained that a Rapid Response Team has also been activated to go to the communities for active case search.

The Executive Chairman said Case Management, Surveillance, Active Case Search, Risk Communication and Environmental Management Pillars were activated under the Rapid Response Team.

Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed said the agency would embark on massive vaccination in the affected local government area to prevent others from the disease.

“Last year we had outbreak of yellow fever in Alkaleri, Ganjuwa, Ningi and Warji local governments, so it is just repeating itself. We are going to map out all the area, by next week we are going to vaccinate the whole local government area” Dr. Mohammed affirmed.

He called on people in Ganjuwa LGA to avail themselves and their children to the vaccination that would be administered soon.
