In an effort to educate Nigerians on the new Naira notes and cashless policy directives, the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN has appealed to religious leaders in Bauchi State to help enlighten people on the implications of refusal to deposits the old naira notes before the 31 January deadline.
The Director Medical Services of the CBN Dr Abdulkadir Jibril made the appeal at separate meetings with the state leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria CAN and Management of Sunnah TV in Bauchi.
Dr Abdulkadir Jibril said the deadline fixed by the apex bank has not been shifted, hence the need for them to support the campaign by informing their adherents and viewers to ensure no one becomes a victim of financial lose due to non-compliance with the directive.
He sought for continued partnership with the religious institution in the sensitisation campaign, noting that the apex bank has authorized the use of money agents, POS terminals and other channels to ease the process for people especially at the grassroots.
“Your association is one of the bodies that have large number of followership, so we’re craving on your indulgence and seeking for your partnership in this laudable programme of enlightening our citizens so that we avoid making them more poor by the end of this month,” Dr Jibrin notes.
The CBN Director Medical Services said the bank is ready to deploy its authorised agents to all areas in need of such services to ensure the old notes are deposited with banks before the deadline.
Responding, the CAN Chairman Bauchi Reverend Abraham Damina who said even though the information is coming at a short notice, the body appreciates the Central Bank for providing the platform to discuss the new policies, and promised to intensify awareness in all nooks and crannies of the state.
“We want to promise you that we’re going to ensure the message reach the grassroots, we have our people at the local government level which I hope and believe they would also take our message very seriously to the people in the villages. So they should intensify effort because we have a very limited time as you said because 31st is at the corner and we’ll like them to make that they do the needful,” Reverend Damina assures.
On his part, the Managing Director Sunnah TV Dr Ibrahim Adam Disina who stated that the station has a wide coverage with its presence on sixteen satellite platforms, assured of the station’s resolve to enlighten people on the new Naira policy as part of corporate social responsibility.
“Virtually everybody here knows that Sunnah TV covers a wide area because currently we are on over sixteen platforms. Even though the campaign is rather coming late, we shall do our own part as part of corporate social responsibility to enlighten our viewers not just in this state but across the nation,” Dr. Disina Promises.
Meanwhile, the National Orientation Agency NOA is currently conducting such awareness campaigns at palaces of traditional leaders, mosques, churches, markets and public places as well as all the nooks and crannies of the state.
