Citizens group pays advocacy to KNHA on 2024-2026 MTEF

The Kano state house of assembly (KNHA), has assured citizens that, the 2024 proposed budget would align with the 2024-2026 medium term expenditure framework (MTEF).
The deputy speaker, Kano state house of assembly Alhaji Muhammad Bello Butu Butu, made the assertion while receiving a coalition citizen groups, during an advocacy, on the 2024-2026 MTEF.
According to him, Kano state house of assembly (KNHA), was fully committed to scrutinizing the MTEF document, before the presentation of the 2024 proposed budget, by the executive.
He stressed that, the medium term expenditure framework (MTEF),would enable the house critically analyse and detect omissions,underfunding, over funding and any other issues related to the budget.
Alhaji Muhammad maintained that, the house is always open for new ideas and suggestions, aimed at moving the state forward, especially with regards to citizens needs and aspirations.
” A public hearing would be organized where citizens inputs would be collated for consideration and the MTEF report would be scrutinized before the budget presentation”
In his remarks, an economist from Sa’adatu Rimi university of education Kumbotso Kano, Dr. Abdulsalam Muhammad Kano explained that, they were at the house of assembly to advocate on the house, to urge the Commissioner ministry of planning and budget, to submit the final draft of MTEF to the house,prior to presentation of the 2024 annual budget estimate.
He noted that, timely submission of the MTEF report, would enable the house to thoroughly assess the document, to ensure it aligns with budget estimate when submitted.
“Bearing in mind the enormous sources of IGR in the State, the Medium-Term Revenue Target (MTRT) need to be vigorously interrogated by the House to ensure that it in tune with economic potentials of Kano State as a Centre of Commerce.
To promote budget realism and credibility, the House needs to ensure that the annual budget estimate is in tandem with Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP).”
Safiyanu Lawan Bichi, of Kano budget working group commended KNHA for the warm reception, and cordial working relationship with CBOs,CSOs, NGOs among others.
Hajiya Rabi representing PWDs described the meeting as fruitful and described Kano house of assembly as a mother to all.
The meeting supported by Partnership to engage reform and learn PERL( ECP),was attended by the deputy speaker, head of administrative services KNHA, law makers, CBOs,CSO,community Influencers,PWDs, Professional Groups, Journalists, Market association, academia, among others.
