Community supports about 100 orphans ahead of sallah celebration in Maiduguri.

About one hundred orphans have been provided with clothing and cash assistance to enable them celebrate eid-el-fitr in joyous mood.

The communities of New GRA and Gwange in Maiduguri Metropolis mobilise resources and created a platform under Orphan Community Foundation to assist orphans domiciled in their communities. 

Ward Head of Gwange Babagana Abba said the Foundation has registered over 200 orphans who mostly loss their parents due to Boko Haram insurgency. 

He called on well meaning individuals and philanthropic organisations to come to the aid of large number of orphans in Borno state. 

The Chief Imam of the New GRA Central mosque Imam Grema Makinta highlighted the importance of assisting orphans explaining that nurturing and sponsoring them is a valuable good deed in Islam.

According to him, Prophet Muhammad who is also an orphan encourage faithful to give special care for orphans and quoted prophetic tradition which said “The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be in paradise like this, and held his two fingers together “.

Imam Grema observed that mistreatment of orphans endangers the society through increased social vices and criminal activities, urging the public to always engage in act that will give them a sense of belonging.
