Experts in Oral Health Care have advised people to avoid the use of uncertified medication in addressing oral problems to guarantee their well-being.
Guests on Iya Ruwa, a Globe FM Bauchi audience participatory program gave the advice on the occasion of World Oral Health Day celebration in Bauchi with the theme “Be Proud of your Mouth”.
One of them and Vice Chairman Nigerian Dental Association Bauchi branch Dr Abdullahi Saidu Bashir who listed some of the common problems with dental patients to lnclude tooth decay, tooth ache and mouth odour, advised people to seek professional advice and care to guarantee their well-being.
Dr Abdullahi Saidu said the day was set aside to create awareness on the dangers of unwholesome oral care practice and to underscore the importance of dental health in both children and adults.
He said activities lined up for the World Oral Health Day celebration include awareness and sensitisation campaign on dental health care in Bauchi and Azare and visitation to orphanage homes among others.
Also Speaking, a member of the association and Dentist with Specialist Hospital Bauchi Dr Babaji Nazif Haruna who said the use of certain traditional herbs and concoction is detrimental to general body health, stressed the need for people to visit dental clinics at least twice a year.
Dr Babaji Haruna also advised breastfeeding mothers to take care of their babies oral health by cleaning the tongue and gums with lookwarm salty water and cottonwool and also supervise brushing by children from two years upward.
World Oral Health Day was set aside by the World Dental Federation on the twentieth of March annually to highlight the benefits of good health, spread awareness about oral diseases and also promote maintenance of oral hygiene.
