FG. Moves to Encourage Maintenance of Public Facilities.

The Federal Government is to restrengthen collaboration with state governments towards ensuring proper maintenance of infrastructural projects across the country.

To this end, it approved the establishment of maintenace unit in all federal and states Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Raji Fashola gave the indication at the twenty seventh Meeting of the National Council on Works held in Bauchi.

Babatunde Fashola said maintaining public structures and management of the facilities will provide employment opportunities for people that will take charge of the maintenance.

The minister while expressing the determination of the Buhari led administration in addressing Infrastructural gaps, announced that federal government has approved construction of over five hundred killometres roads to boost socioeconomic activities across the country.

The state Governor Bala Mohammed represented by his Deputy Senator Baba Tela appreciated the support of the federal government towards achieving the State Government’s Urban and rural renewal initiative noting that efforts are being made to open up city centres with more roads and provide them with basic amenities.

Bala Mohammed urged the council to make recommendations on best way to guarantee security of contractors handling the construction and maintainace federal roads in trouble areas. 

The meeting has in attendance Commissioners of works and Housing from thirty six states of the federation and the FCT, Directors and relevant stakeholders.

Radio Nigeria observed that the minister used the opportunity to inspect some ongoing construction of roads and houses in the state capital.
