FG urged to Address cases of building collapsed.

The Federal Government has been enjoined to expedite action on the National Building Code Project to address rampant buildings collapsed in the country.

The National President Nigerian Institute of Building NIOB Builder Kunle Awobode who made the appeal in his speech to celebrate the second builders’ day said a nation without building code leaves its construction sector to whims of quacks.

The speech of the National President read by the Bauchi state chapter of the Institute, Builder Danlami Muhammad Garba said the Ita Ifaaji five storey building collapsed in Lagos Island that killed twenty occupants including pupils in twenty nineteen served as challenge to address the menace.

Builder Kunle Awobode said thirteenth March of every year was set aside to commemorate the Ita Faaji tragedy victims and all other victims in various part of the country.

He stressed the need for government to get rid of quacks of all building sites in Nigeria and prioritize the safety of lives during and after constructions by providing the basic requirements of the Nigerian National Building Code .

The National President noted that lack of variable building code with adequate enforcement aggregate the building collapsed crisis.

The theme for this year’s celebration which is, Professional Builders, Engagement in Building Production, featured visits to various building sites, technical advise and construction techniques to clients as well as career talks on radio and television among others.
