FRSC Zone 12 tasks stakeholders to take weekly markets off highways.

Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC has urged stakeholders to ensure that weekly markets are taken off the highways to reduce traffic problems and ensure safety of lives.

Similarly, motorists have been advised against overloading towards reducing Road Traffic Crashes RTC.

The Zonal Commanding Officer FRSC Zone 12 Bauchi Assistant Corps Marshall Rotimi Adeleye made the call at a press briefing in Bauchi.

Rotimi Adeleye who said weekly markets have over the years been the source of traffic jam on major highways especially during ember months, called for their relocation off the roads.

“Display of markets here tends to move towards the highway and we are actually engaging and discussing with the leaders to ensure that display of markets are off the highways in order to ensure free flow of traffic, he said.”

He said that the corp has been engaging stakeholders at various loading garages towards ensuring that motorists carry the approved quantity of goods and people in their vehicles.

On the issue of horse riders, the Zonal Commanding Officer advised people with such habit to use the animals without obstructing free flow of traffic.

“So we appeal to our leaders to engage in discussion with the horse riders so that they can also ride safely in this festive period, he added”
While calling on transport unions to ensure their members abide by all COVID 19 safety protocols, Rotimi Adeleye noted that the provision of hand sanitizers in all vehicles and use of face masks by passengers are mandatory.

He also disclosed that about one thousand five hundred personnel have been deployed for the yearly sensitisation program from 15th December to 15th January across the three states of Bauchi, Yobe and Borno under the zone.
