CSACEFA COORDINATOR DR AUWAL HALILU ADDRESSING SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS DURING THE VISIT

In commemoration of the Global Action Week on Education (GAWE), the Civil Society Action for Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA), Kano state chapter, visited special education schools in Kano, to promote the culture of inclusiveness.
CSACEFA North West Co-ordinator, Dr Auwal Halilu said, students with special needs were often marginalized in many policies, despite the figures of enrollment by that keep rising in Kano state, according to statistical data.
He stressed that, the coalition identified Amina Albasu School for the special Needs, which was built by a veteran primary school teacher, to encourage children with special needs, to have access to education.
He however stressed that, Brigade Special School, which has both Primary and Secondary sections, with over 300 hundred students, had served as a safe haven, for the less privileged in Brigade communities.

In his remarks, a lecturer with the department of adult education and community development, Bayero University Kano (BUK), who doubles as co-chair, Kano State Accountability Forum on Education (K-SAFE), Professor Muhammad Bello Shitu said, the Sustainable Development Goals expected to be achieved by 2030, is a wake up call to all.
He pointed out that, their interactions with the students and teachers gave them a clear vision of whether SDGs 4, is on the right track or not, and how CSACEFA would continue advocating for education financing, in each aspect.

Responding, the principal of Brigade Special School Malam Ali Tanko, called for additional teachers and capacity building on multi grade training, saying that, many students share the same classes irrespective of their level.
Malam Ali appealed for support on the student’s entrepreneurship scheme, to make them self reliant.
