Thousands of commuters plying Gombe – Bauchi road have been stranded as suspected thugs blocked and set fire on the dual road near the International Conference Centre to prevent Senator Danjuma Goje from having access to Gombe town where he is expected to attend a wedding ceremony.

The thugs smashed and burnt some vehicles, leaving scores sustaining various degree of injuries.

Security operatives were deployed to the scene of the incident to restore law and order, however all efforts to speak with the Gombe Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Obed Mary Malum proved abortive.

Reacting to the incident, the State Government condemned the act, describing it as a breach of peace being enjoined in the state capital.

In a statement the State Commissioner of Information and Culture, Julius Ishaya Lepez, said people of the State have been witnessing relative peace and harmony largely due to the determination and avowed commitment of Governor Inuwa Yahaya, assuring that government would not fold it’s arms and watch desperate politicians unleashing terror and violence on innocent citizens.

While sympathising with families of the victims, the state government commends the security agencies for their timely intervention in bringing the ugly situation under control.

According to the statement, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya would not relent in discharging his responsibilities and therefore would do everything within his powers to protect the lives and property of the citizenry.
