GOMBE STATE GOVERNMENT URGED RESIDENTS TO STOP OPEN DEFECATION, PRACTICE GOOD HYGIENE.

Gombe State Government has called on residents of the State to desist from practising open defecation as it is harmful to the environment and agents of disease.
The call was made by the General Manager Gombe State Sanitation and Protection Environmental Agency GOSSEPA, Ahmed Mohammed Kumo while briefing radio Nigeria Jewel FM Gombe in his office.
Ahmed Kumo described open defecation as unhygienic urging residents to build toilets and use them wisely.
He however advised those on transit to use commercial toilets instead.
Ahmad Kumo said maintaining a clean environment helps keep diseases away and fosters the growth and development of children.
“Clean air and water, sanitation and green spaces, safe workplaces can enhance people’s quality of life: reduced mortality and morbidity, healthier lifestyles, improved productivity of workers and their families, improve lives of women, children and elderly and are crucial to mental health”.
He said the Gombe state government in collaboration with the world bank would build twelve modern toilets across the state under the so-wash program to provide easy access to toilets and have a safe, clean environment and healthy people.
