Yobe state Governor Mai Mala Buni wants the Academic Staff Union of Yobe state University to review its position and suspend its participation in the ongoing nationwide strike by the union.

Governor Buni made the appeal at a meeting with management of Yobe State university and the leadership of the various Unions of the institution
held at the office of the Secretary to the Yobe state Government Baba Malam Wali.

In a statement signed by the Press Secretary to the SSG Alhaji Shuaibu Abdullahi, Governor Buni says the meeting become necessary due to concerns raised by parents and students considering that government and the unions have no issues that warrant the continuation of their participation in the strike.

Governor Buni represented at the meeting by the secretary to the Yobe State Government, Baba Malam Wali explained that, ASUU and the other unions should put into consideration the peculiarity of the state that is just recovering from the devastating effect of insurgency which affects all sectors including education hence the need for them to resume work to Bridge the gap created.

He emphasized that the unions can attest to the fact that Yobe state government has invested a lot in the institution specifically in the areas of capital projects, manpower development and prompt payment of salaries and other entitlements with a view to create conducive teaching and learning environment.

In their remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the Yobe State University Professor Mala Daura and the chairman of ASUU Yobe state chapter Dr Muhammad Saje Jajere on behalf of the other Unions appreciated and acknowledged the various supports rendered to the University and assured the State Goverment that the congresses of the various Unions will meet to address the issue and assured of positive outcome which will be reported back to the Government on Tuesday next week.

Others present at the meeting include, Yobe state Head of service Alhaji Garba Bilal, Commissioners of Justice, Higher education, Water Resources,Chairman House Committee on Higher Education among others.
