The Kano State Ministry of Land and Physical Planning recently announced an extension of the recertification exercise for all issued Certificates of Occupancy (CsofO) for an additional 60 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Commissioner of Lands and Physical Planning Alhaji Abduljabbar Umar disclosed this while briefing journalist in Kano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the decision was made to provide more time for landowners who have not yet recertified their titles to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The recertification exercise, which began on November 25, 2024, aims to create a comprehensive database of land properties across the state. “<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the database will capture essential information, including.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Land Ownership( Who owns land and properties in Kano State)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Property Utilization ,Specific use of each land-related property (residential, commercial, etc.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Revenue Projections,Projected annual revenue from land-related properties (ground rents, etc.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Infrastructure Availability: Available land-related infrastructure across the state<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The commissioner noted that as of the latest update, 241,025 properties across six metropolitan local government areas have been captured in the database.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the ministry commends the support of critical stakeholders, including the Kano Emirate Council, local government heads, and community leaders, for their contributions to the exercise’s success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Despite the progress made, many landowners have yet to recertify their titles, risking revocation under the Land Use Act of 1978. “<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Commissioner Explained that government urges all landowners to take immediate action and recertify their titles before the new deadline of May 30, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The recertification fee has been set at N10,000, excluding statutory outstanding debts.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abduljabbar Umar said the names of defaulters will be published in national dailies and government outlets, including the Kano State Library and Audu Bako Secretariat, to encourage compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that Kano State government remains committed to the recertification exercise, ensuring a smooth and efficient process for all stakeholders involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The ministry encourages everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to safeguard their land assets and comply with the regulations.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
