The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, has emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting soil science research and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister disclosed this while presenting his speech during the opening ceremony of the 49th Annual Conference of Soil Science Society of Nigeria SSSN taking place at Bayero University Kano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that enhancing soil science plays a vital role in rejuvenating the soil, aimed at boosting food security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the guest of honor at the 49th Annual Conference of the Soil Science Society of Nigeria (SSSN), the minister acknowledged the social scientists for their unwavering commitment towards enhancing food security in the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the conference comes at the right time for the development of the Nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Agriculture serves as a vital source of the economy, hence it needs optimum commitment towards curtailing challenges affecting agricultural development, especially climate change and soil degradation,” he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister’s remarks were echoed by the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, represented by the Deputy Vice chancellor academics prof Haruna Musa,who highlighted the conference’s focus on modern developments in soil science and its relevance to addressing climate change and food security challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We can address these challenges and build a bright future for agricultural development,” Prof. Abbas said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Similarly, the President of the Soil Science Society of Nigeria (SSSN), Professor Jibrin Mohammed Jibrin, highlighted the importance of soil health in achieving food security and national development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized that the society’s 49th Annual Conference would provide a platform for experts to share knowledge and ideas on promoting soil health and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In their separate remarks,Governor Baba Gana Umara zulum, represented by Secretary to Borno State Government,and Chief Executive of the Nigeria Drugs Law Enforcement Agency Brigadier General Buba Marwa RTD represented by the NDLEA Commander in Kano described the conference as timely, and urged the participants to brainstorm and fine-tune modalities of collaboration efforts with policy makers to enhance soil Science to boost food security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the event the minister and Borno State Governor were Confered with Fellows of the Soil Science Society of Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The conference brought together experts to discuss pressing issues in soil health and resilience, with a focus on promoting soil health and resilience through research and innovation for sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
