Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board, with support from Population Services International (PSI) has offered free blood pressure checks and medication to individuals to mark this year\u2019s World Hypertension Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The medical outreach, held at Central Market in Bauchi metropolis, targets over one thousand people for screening to help them determine their blood pressure and overall health status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to journalists, the Board\u2019s Deputy Director, Public Health, Umar Hassan Waziri, said the aim is to raise awareness about the importance of knowing one\u2019s blood pressure status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He warned that hypertension could cause cardiac issues and other complications, stressing that regular blood pressure checks are essential in preventing sudden deaths among individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, hypertension, being a silent killer, remains one of the major health conditions the state is working to combat through its Primary Health Care system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Deputy Director said Bauchi is piloting a hypertension control programme in six local governments, supported by PSI and funded by AstraZeneca in collaboration with Healthy Hearts Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The awareness event began with a road walk from Kofar Ran through Bakin Kura and Wunti streets, ending at Central Market where the screening was conducted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year\u2019s World Hypertension Day is themed \u201cMeasure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer,\u201d encouraging early detection and control to prevent life-threatening conditions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
