The Coalition of Northern Groups Students wing (CNG-SW) has called on President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to make further consultations before putting the proposed tax reform bills into consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The call was made during a town hall meeting of the members of the coalition in collaboration with the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other critical stakeholders in Damaturu, the Yobe State Capital.
Speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Group (CNG), Mr Jamilu Aliyu Chiranci, emphasized the need for extensive discussions with experts, a clear communication plan, and inclusive design frameworks to ensure the reforms achieve their intended results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Jamilu Chiranci, the proposed Tax Reform Bills have faced opposition from various stakeholders, including the National Economic Council, the Northern Governors’ Forum, and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Reforms that are successful usually have a few traits in common. These traits include extensive discussions with experts and others, a clear communication plan that explains the reforms, inclusive and suitable design frameworks, and well-organized procedures to guarantee the reforms achieve the intended results”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that the Coalition of Northern Group -Student Wing (CNG -SW) is particularly concerned about the impact of higher taxes on businesses and individuals, which could reduce private spending on education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National Coordinator of the Students Wing of CNG, Hassan Adamu, also called on the Federal Government to suspend plans for withdrawing funding for the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), which would severely affect Nigerian institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the Coalition of Northern Groups Students wing is willing to put a lot of work into making sure that Northern Nigeria’s interests and opinions are taken into consideration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
