The member at the house of representative Bama, Ngala, Kalabalge federal constituency, Rt, Hon, Dr. Zainab Giimba Said as the chairperson Commonwealth Women parliamentarian International, she stands to advocate for reform to be made on the low representation of women in the parliament and all public offices in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a member of the committee, she is in support of the bill for women to contest more seat in steering the affairs of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile the Director General of the women development Center, Asabe Vilita Bashir, said no serious government will will neglect more than half of its population as women represents more than fifty percent (50%) of its population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They both stated this at the public hearing on the review of the 1999 constitution by the Committee of the House of Representatives on Saturday at the Mohammed indimi multi-purpose Hall University of maiduguri the Borno state capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asabe Vilita lamented on low inclusion of women in governance while Nigeria has been a signatory of so many treaties of women inclusivity, but has not been implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that in the national assembly out of three hundred and sixty (360) members only Seventeen (17) are women, likewise in the Senate out of 109 senators only four (4) are women, which is a negligible percentage in a place where the majority carries the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In their separate remarks, they both expressed happiness as the two Chambers have seen reason to support the bill of more reserved seats for women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
