Bauchi State Ministries of Education and Religious Affairs have received a multi-million naira supplies for distribution to fifty selected formal and non-formal schools across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The items were procured by Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (ASPIRE) project, funded by Global Affairs Canada and individual Canadian donors and is being implemented by Plan International with local partners in Bauchi and Sokoto states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They include Desks, Braille machines, first aid boxes, solar light poles, dust-bins, notice boards, rubber kettles, Mopping buckets and water containers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Others are white boards, hand wash soaps, hand sanitisers, disinfectant, brooms, detergents, Sanitary pads, Toilet rolls, white-board markers and cleaners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Receiving the items on behalf of the two ministries, Commissioner of Education, Dr Lawal Mohammed, said the supplies would compliment the state government’s reforms in the sector aimed at improving learning among students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Lawal Mohammed, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Ali Babayo assured government’s resolve to ensure judicious distribution and utilisation of the items, noting the huge benefits of the items to students across the selected schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Manager, ASPIRE project, Murtala Bello said the donation is part of the project’s strategy to promote safer, more conducive learning environments and inclusion of persons with disability, especially adolescent boys and girls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the sanitary pads provided would help in ending the barrier that denies adolescent girls access to learning during their menstrual circle, while the solar-powered street lights would give the students confidence to learn and move freely within school premises during night hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him the project’s ultimate goal is centred around improving the realisation of sexual and reproductive health and rights for adolescent girls and young women and vulnerable populations in Bauchi and Sokoto states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the event, representatives of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Bauchi State Agency for Mass Education, Bauchi State Agency for Persons With Disabilities, Government Girls Colleges and Government Day Secondary Schools were in attendance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
