The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has announced that the new national tax regime will soon take effect across all sectors of the Nigerian economy, with a strong emphasis on transparency, efficiency, and digital transformation.<\/p>\n
The Chairman of FIRS, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, disclosed this during the Northern Revenue Conference held in Kano, themed \u201cReadiness, Reforms and Digital Transformation.\u201d Dr. Adedeji, who was represented by the Secretary of the Joint Tax Board, Dr. Adesokan Olusegun, said the new tax laws were enacted by the National Assembly to strengthen the country\u2019s fiscal system and improve revenue collection mechanisms.<\/p>\n
He explained that the reforms are aimed at ensuring accountability and efficiency within the tax administration framework, noting that the new measures would significantly enhance the ease of doing business and create a more transparent taxation process across all levels of government.<\/p>\n
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), Dr. Zaid Abubakar, said the conference was convened to provide a platform for stakeholders to deliberate on the implementation of the new tax laws, especially as they relate to improved revenue generation in the Northern region.<\/p>\n
According to him, \u201cThe purpose of hosting this conference is to brainstorm on the newly designed tax laws and explore innovative strategies for revenue generation. The new regime will reshape our revenue architecture and ensure progressive growth across the region.\u201d<\/p>\n
Also speaking at the event, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Musa Suleiman Shanono, commended the state\u2019s revenue agencies for their efforts in boosting internally generated revenue (IGR).<\/p>\n
He noted that the state had recorded remarkable improvements in revenue collection over the past two years, placing Kano among the top-performing states in the country in terms of fiscal performance.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe state government has achieved significant transformation through improved revenue generation, and this success has been instrumental in funding developmental projects and improving service delivery,\u201d Governor Yusuf stated.<\/p>\n
The three-day conference featured a series of technical sessions and interactive panels focusing on digital transformation in tax administration, inter-agency collaboration, and innovative fiscal policies.<\/p>\n
It was attended by chairmen and directors of Internal Revenue Services from the 19 Northern states, representatives of the Joint Tax Board, policy experts, and other key stakeholders in Nigeria\u2019s revenue sector.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
