The Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN) held a press briefing on Tuesday at the Muhammadu Indimi Conference Centre, University of Maiduguri, ahead of its 42nd Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference. The event drew healthcare professionals from across the country to the Borno State capital.<\/p>\n
The President of APHPN, Dr. Terfa Kene, presided over the conference, noting that this marks the first time the association has held such a significant gathering in Maiduguri.<\/p>\n
According to our correspondent, Abubakar Musa, Dr. Kene described APHPN as Nigeria\u2019s premier association of public health physicians. He highlighted that the body comprises experts from academia, government, local councils, NGOs, and the private sector. These professionals are tasked with the critical responsibility of delivering healthcare services in conflict and crisis zones, while developing strategies to build resilient healthcare systems.<\/p>\n
Dr. Kene issued a passionate call for the protection of frontline health workers. He emphasized that personnel operating in conflict areas must be safeguarded to ensure they can effectively deliver essential health services to citizens.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the choice of venue, the President stated that Maiduguri was selected in recognition of the remarkable strides made by the administration of Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum. He commended the state government\u2019s efforts in resolving conflict, containing violence, and its extensive humanitarian initiatives aimed at rebuilding and resettling citizens in formerly embattled areas.<\/p>\n
Dr. Kene expressed his gratitude to the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Prof. S. J. Yahaya, as well as the LOC members and the Borno State Chapter of APHPN, for their hospitality and dedicated efforts in organizing the event.<\/p>\n
