The Borno State Police Command seeks to clarify the facts surrounding the death of Abdul Hadi, a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), following reports currently circulating in the media.<\/p>\n
The incident occured on 4th February 2026, at approximately 16:00hrs, a joint patrol team\u2014comprising the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Social Vices Unit\u2014intercepted a suspect, Abba Hussani, in Kaleri, Maiduguri. The suspect was found in possession of a sharp knife and a customized axe.<\/p>\n
This was contained in a release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer,ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso. <\/p>\n
The release stated that during the arrest, Abdul Hadi (a VGN member and Kaleri resident) fired upon a patrol vehicle in an attempt to obstruct the operation. The gunfire perforated the bonnet of a white Hilux belonging to the Nigeria Immigration Service, a component of the joint task force. Following the discharge, the individual fled the scene.<\/p>\n
The statement said that, following coordination with VGN leadership, Abdul Hadi reported to the RRS-Social Vice Unit on 6th February 2026. During preliminary questioning, he admitted to firing at the patrol vehicle and was subsequently remanded at the Tandari Custodial Centre for safekeeping.<\/p>\n
ASP Daso, explained that on 9th February 2026, at about 17:00hrs, Abdul Hadi developed sudden health complications while in custody. He was immediately rushed to a medical facility but was tragically confirmed dead by medical personnel.<\/p>\n
The statement revealed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid psc, has ordered a transparent and comprehensive investigation into the incident, including a review of the conduct of all personnel on duty at the detention facility.<\/p>\n
The Command then reaffirms that the Nigeria Police Force maintains a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct. Any officer found culpable will face the full weight of the law.<\/p>\n
The command urges the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified narratives and remains dedicated to accountability and the safety of all Borno State residents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
