Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has assumed the chairmanship of the Lake Chad Basin Governors\u2019 Forum, after been unanimously endorsed by governors of the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Buni received the mantle of leadership from Her Excellency Ildjima Abdraman, Governor of Hadjer Lamis Province, Chad Republic at the 5th edition of the Forum held at the Muhammadu Indimi Learning Centre, University of Maiduguri, Borno State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This appointment reflects the trust and confidence that governors and stakeholders of the region have in his leadership and ability to address the pressing challenges facing the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to the development, Governor Mai Mala Buni expressed appreciation to the Lake Chad Basin Governors\u2019 Forum for entrusting him with the responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The governor emphasized his commitment to ensuring continued progress in addressing the critical challenges confronting the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He acknowledged the importance of regional cooperation, and collective efforts in addressing the challenges facing the Lake Chad Basin, including security threats, climate change, socio-economic disparities, and environmental issues, that have long affected communities within the basin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Governor Buni commended the contributions of the United Nations, Lake Chad Basin Commission, African Union Commission, and other developmental partners for supporting the region\u2019s recovery efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theme of this 5th Forum, \u2018Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin: Consolidating Gains, Commitment to Peace, Cross-Border Cooperation, Security, and Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community,\u2019 signals a renewed commitment to tackling the region’s multifaceted challenges, including the ongoing threat of Boko Haram insurgency, widespread poverty exacerbated by climate change, and the environmental degradation of the Lake Chad itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
