The North East Development Commission, NEDC, has intensified efforts to combat kidney disease in Gombe State with free screening and treatment for residents.<\/p>\n
The State Coordinator of the Commission, Architect Usman Muhammad, disclosed this during a medical outreach at the State Specialist Hospital in Gombe.<\/p>\n
He said the intervention includes quarterly support for patients, especially the provision of essential drugs for those battling kidney-related illnesses.<\/p>\n
Architect Usman Muhammad noted that the Commission remains committed to improving healthcare through various initiatives, including supply of medical equipment, drugs, and infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Medical experts at the event raised concern over the rising cases of kidney disease in the North-East, revealing that about one in every thirty people is affected.<\/p>\n
They emphasised that early detection is key to preventing complications, particularly among children who are considered highly vulnerable.<\/p>\n
As part of the exercise, about one hundred and fifty patients are expected to benefit from free screening and medications.<\/p>\n
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the NEDC, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.<\/p>\n
Health professionals have, however, urged the public to adopt healthy lifestyles and seek regular medical check-ups to reduce the risk of kidney disease.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
