Borno State Government says it have spends the sum of three hundred million naira as Scholarship for the Orphans left behind by the Members of the Civilian JTF, Hunters and Vigiantees who died in the course of discharge of their duties.<\/p>\n
The Executive Secretary Borno State Scholarship Board, Dr Bala Isa stated this during a media briefing which took place at the Conference hall of the Board in Maiduguri.<\/p>\n
He explained that the scheme which commences five (5) years back, was a fulfilment of the pledge made by Governor Baba Gana Umara Zulum to ensure that the Children left by the Member of the Hybrid Security forces who died on active duty to the State did not became dropout in the respective Schools they were attending.<\/p>\n
To this end, Governor Zulum approves the sum of sixty (60) million naira which covered School fees, books, learning materials, uniforms, shoes, school bags and other logistics required to keep these Children in School and give them a sense of belonging and dignity.<\/p>\n
Dr Bala Isa added that the Governor also approved additional twenty three (23) million naira to the guardians of these Orphans to ensure their welfare as well as those they were taking care of.<\/p>\n
The Executive Secretary Borno State Scholarship Board said that the scheme was designed to be close towards the end of the tenure of Governor Baba Gana Umara Zulum which this particular media briefing also signaled the closure of the five years circled initiative.<\/p>\n
The event which also witnessed the presence of some of the Widows and Guardians of the mentioned Orphans have the Executive Secretary Borno State Scholarship Board presented the cheaque of eighty three (83) million naira for upkeep of the Orphans beyond the five years approved period.<\/p>\n
He thanked the Pioneer Chairman of the Committee, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan and the Members of the Committee for the initial selection and screening of the beneficiaries, and the Commissioner of Education Science, Technology and Innovation Engineer Lawan Abba Wakibe whose guidance, oversight and dedication ensured that the program was implemented with transparency, fairness and accountability.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Newsmen during the briefing, Some Guardians and Mothers of the Orphans thanked Governor Baba Gana Umara Zulum for the commitment and the gesture, saying the scheme have ensured wiped the tears in the eyes of the Orphans and provide them the sense of belongings.<\/p>\n
They appealed to the incoming Governor of the Borno State to continue from where Governor Baba Gana Umara Zulum stops so as to sustain the education of the beneficiaries up to tertiary level.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
