Global warming, a persistent effect of climate change, occurs due to the trapping of heat radiated from the Earth by greenhouse gases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These greenhouse gases, in their natural state, help maintain a temperature suitable for life, supporting both plants and animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the world commemorates World Radio Day 2025, this year\u2019s theme highlights the vital role of radio in raising awareness about climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Yola-based environmental expert, Dr Hasuruna Amos, describes the theme, Radio and Climate Change, as timely, emphasizing that radio can enhance coverage of one of the most pressing global challenges today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, he warns that human industrial and agricultural activities have significantly increased greenhouse gas emissions, intensifying the greenhouse effect and leading to a rise in global temperatures, commonly referred to as global warming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The expert further explained that human activities such as burning fossil fuels, coal, and oil have resulted in high carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Amos noted that climate change has negatively impacted food security in Nigeria, leading to conflicts over natural resources and threatening human security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To address this crisis, he advocated the use of briquettes as an alternative cooking fuel, which could help mitigate climate change and reduce its harmful consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Environmental expert, Dr. Hasuruna Amos, also stressed the urgent need for legislative action, including large-scale tree planting and conservation efforts, while urging key stakeholders to promote eco-friendly alternatives like briquettes to curb activities that contribute to climate change.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
