The Singer Market Development Association(SIMDA) has commended the Federal Government over the improvement of food security in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chairman of the association,Barr.Junaidu Zakari Mohammed,made the commendation while interacting with Journalists in Kano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the Federal Government’s interventions including waivers for importation of rice, pastas and noodles had significantly crashed prices of the commodities in the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We commend the Federal Government for granting waivers on the importation of essential commodities such as rice,pastas and noodles.This has crashed the prices of these items in the market.This is a welcome development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“People are now happy that the prices have gone down,and are no longer apprehensive that they will go up again; and we hope that the waivers will be sustained for some time to come,”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mohammed appealed to the Federal Government to create a competitive environment to encourage the establishment of more food processing companies in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This,he said, would boost the volume of foodstuff such as pastas and noodles in the country thus reducing their prices in the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also urged the government to intensify efforts to develop agriculture, including the provision of improved seeds that would give abundant yields to further boost food security in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chairman then called on the government to take more steps to further improve security in the country,to enable farmers to cultivate their land without any fear, adding that this would further boost security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are aware that security of lives and property has improved in the country, but we are urging the government to intensify efforts to further improve the situation,”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
