{"id":689,"date":"2025-02-18T16:27:53","date_gmt":"2025-02-18T16:27:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/radionigerianortheast.gov.ng\/?p=689"},"modified":"2025-02-18T16:27:58","modified_gmt":"2025-02-18T16:27:58","slug":"sfh-launches-swift-project-to-expand-womens-access-to-family-planning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radionigerianortheast.gov.ng\/?p=689","title":{"rendered":"SFH Launches SWIFT Project to Expand Women\u2019s Access to Family Planning"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Khadija Aliyu <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Society for Family Health (SFH) has launched the Supporting Women\u2019s Increased Access to Family Planning through Pharmacies and Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors (SWIFT) project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This initiative aims to reduce maternal mortality and enhance women\u2019s economic empowerment in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The three-year project, supported by the Gates Foundation, Pharmacy Council of Nigeria PCN and state governments, will focus on strengthening healthcare service delivery, increasing access to family planning, and empowering women-led businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Dayyabu Mahmud Yusuf, Director of Health System Strengthening at SFH, the project will help women take charge of their health and enhance their financial independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe initiative aims to optimize Community Pharmacies (CPs) and PPMVS as well as empower women-led businesses, helping to reduce economic inequalities, and contribute to poverty reduction and social mobility\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explained that, in Kano State, the project seeks to bridge the gender gap in healthcare by training 1,321 female Community Pharmacists and PPMVs in family planning and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAdditionally, 400 new Female PPMVs will be established in the state\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe SWIFT project will be implemented in Kano, Kaduna, and Lagos States, with the goal of promoting gender equity, reducing economic inequalities, and contributing to poverty reduction and social mobility\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Kano state commissioner for health Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry Pharmacist Aminu Bashir noted that the family planning intervention will go a long way in crashing maternal mortality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted that empowering Women to provide family planning services will improve service delivery to achieve the desired objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Radio Nigeria reports that, the event tagged swift project inception meeting was attended by representatives from OCN,KECCOH, Ministry of commerce, women Affairs, ALGON, Lafiya Jari ,NAPPMED among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Khadija Aliyu The Society for Family Health (SFH) has launched the Supporting Women\u2019s Increased Access to Family Planning through Pharmacies and Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors (SWIFT) project.
