{"id":885,"date":"2025-02-28T17:08:38","date_gmt":"2025-02-28T17:08:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/radionigerianortheast.gov.ng\/?p=885"},"modified":"2025-02-28T17:08:42","modified_gmt":"2025-02-28T17:08:42","slug":"cssun-advocates-six-months-maternity-leave-creches-in-bauchi-mdas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radionigerianortheast.gov.ng\/?p=885","title":{"rendered":"CSSUN Advocates Six Months\u2019 Maternity Leave, Cr\u00e8ches in Bauchi MDAs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Murtala Muhammad<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition (CSSUN) has renewed its advocacy for an increase in maternity leave from three to six months, with full pay, and the establishment of cr\u00e8ches in all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in Bauchi State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Co-chair of CSSUN\u2019s Steering Committee, Ms Aji Robinson, who led a delegation from Abuja, made the call during an advocacy visit to the state\u2019s MDAs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ms Robinson emphasised that the extension of maternity leave was crucial, as it would enable lactating mothers to practise exclusive breastfeeding without concerns about their jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" data-id=\"888\" src=\"https:\/\/radionigerianortheast.gov.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/1000131911-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-888\" srcset=\"https:\/\/radionigerianortheast.gov.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/1000131911-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/radionigerianortheast.gov.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/1000131911-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/radionigerianortheast.gov.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/1000131911-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/radionigerianortheast.gov.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/1000131911.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" data-id=\"887\" src=\"https:\/\/radionigerianortheast.gov.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/1000131913-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-887\" srcset=\"https:\/\/radionigerianortheast.gov.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/1000131913-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/radionigerianortheast.gov.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/1000131913-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/radionigerianortheast.gov.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/1000131913-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/radionigerianortheast.gov.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/1000131913.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She noted that complementary feeding was necessary after the six-month exclusive breastfeeding period, as food and water would then be introduced to support a child\u2019s growth and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ms Robinson stressed the importance of breastfeeding for newborns, stating that it plays a vital role in meeting children\u2019s nutritional needs during their first 1,000 days, from conception to their second birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She expressed concern over the findings of the 2023\/2024 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), which revealed that Bauchi\u2019s malnutrition burden stands at 56.4%\u2014a figure higher than the national average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Co-chair, CSSUN Steering Committee who called on the state government to invest a minimum of one hundred million naira in Child Nutrition Fund (CNF) to enable it get double of that amount in nutrition commodities that would cater for malnourished children, said doing so would go a long way in reversing the state&#8217;s malnutrition indices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the MDAs visited by the delegation were the Ministries of Water Resources; Budget, Economic Planning, and Multilateral Coordination; Health; and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, as well as the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The MDAs assured their support for CSSUN in achieving its goals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Murtala Muhammad The Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition (CSSUN) has renewed its advocacy for an increase in maternity leave from three to six months, with full pay, and the establishment of cr\u00e8ches in all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in Bauchi State.
