Nigerians have been urged to imbibe the culture of riding bicycles to reduce carbon monoxide emission into the atmosphere.
The Zonal Commander Federal road Safety Commission Bauchi ACM Rotimi Adeleke made the call while addressing journalists in commemoration of World Bicycle Day held at NUJ Press Center Bauchi.
ACM Rotimi Adeleke said the United Nation in the year 2018 declared every 3rd of June every year as World Bicycle Day to increase awareness on the importance of riding bicycles to human health.
He mentioned some of the benefits of riding a bicycle to reduce carbon monoxide emission into the atmosphere, create space as well as improve fitness.
The Zonal FRSC Commander explained that the Commission is in talks with the Federal Ministry of Works on the provision of length to bicycle riders while constructing roads in the future.
In his speech, State Chairman NUJ, Comrade Umar Saidu appealed to the federal government to increase budgetary allocation to the commission to enable it to perform effectively.
Comrade Umar Saidu enjoined FRSC to reintroduce Issuance of Bicycle Licence to have proper record and improve internally generated revenue.
The NUJ Chairman used the medium to assured that journalists would always support the activities of the commission to succeed
The Commemoration has in attendance the State Head of Paramilitary agencies to include NDLEA, Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service NSCDC, Fire Service others are corps members and school children.
