Journalists in northeast equipped with multimedia skills.

Journalists in the northeast have been charged to embrace multimedia journalism in order to stay in tune with the changing times.
The program Director of Daily Trust Foundation, Dr. Thiophilus Abbah gave the charge during a three day workshop on Multimedia Journalism organized by Daily Trust Foundation with support from Mac Arthur foundation, in yola, Adamawa State.
Participants from print, electronic and online media are drawn from northeast states of Bauchi, Borno, Yobe, Taraba, Gombe and Adamawa.
According to Dr Theophilus Abbah, participants at the training will explore how to use their smartphones to make news videos and audios and how to report for multi.
“The focus of this training is multimedia reporting and the idea is that we wanted to build the capacity of journalists to be able to report for all available platform, to be able to write for websites, to make videos, podcasts, photography, infographic as these are new development in journalism..as a journalist you must be upgraded to know how to do all these things, the reason is all the platforms are coming together to what we call convergence media..” The Program Director said.
“we are doing this as regional training, we will go to northwest, north central, southwest and south-south..this one is just for northeast journalists..” he further explained.
Dr Abbah was optimistic that equipping journalists with the skills to function well in multimedia journalism will curtail the spread of rumours and fake news by untrained individuals in various social media platforms and also build economic and social status of the journalists.
The Adamawa State commissioner of information Umar Garba Pellah described the multimedia journalism training for Nigerian journalists as timely while commending the organizers for the giant efforts.
He therefore urged participants to utilise knowledge and skills that will be acquired at the end of the training to remain relevant in the emerging and ever evolving media landscape.
Daily Trust Foundation is a non profit arm of Media Trust Limited, that has the cooperate social responsibility of training journalists, giving out scholarships to female medical students as well as medical interventions and digging boreholes for internally displaced persons in the country.
A total of 25 journalists from the region are participating in the 3 day workshop.
